Use of the DELI policy analytics tool to promote CRC prevention in Spain
Between February and June 2025, the DELI dashboard was used by 13 decision-makers and policy experts in Spain in the context of Laboratory Integration Test 3 of the ONCODIR project. The tool is being developed by the iSENSE group of ICCS and CERTH.
For the purposes of the study, a dedicated tab was developed on the DELI dashboard with visualisations of CRC data from the autonomous communities of Spain accessed through public databases. Specifically, we included data on CRC mortality, screening and prevalence of various risk factors (i.e. BMI, smoking, alcohol use, physical activity, poverty risk). The user was able to compare between autonomous communities and years. Some examples can be seen below.
Example I: Percentage of the population >15 years old, of both sexes,
who smoke daily, by autonomous community in Spain, 2017
Example II. Percentage of the population screened for CRC in 10 autonomous communities in Spain in 2017 and 2019
Example III. CRC Mortality Rate. The user can select the autonomous community, year range and sex.
A link to the dashboard was sent to the policy experts who then participated in a series of remote consultations held by UNIRIOJA. The consultations, supported by the DELI tool and data visualisations, focused on the current situation of CRC prevention programmes and recommendations to facilitate the adoption of the ONCODIR solutions.
The recommendations will significantly improve the design and increase engagement with the DELI ahead of the two Large-scale Intervention Pilots of the tool in Greece and Lithuania in 2026.
