Third Prevention and Early Detection Cluster Meeting Advances Collaboration and Policy Impact
31 March 2026 – The third meeting of the Prevention and Early Detection Cluster – Implementation Research successfully brought together approximately 70 key stakeholders in a dynamic virtual forum hosted by ONCODIR.
The meeting served as a vital touchpoint for aligning research efforts with the broader goals of the EU Mission Cancer, focusing on the practical application of scientific findings to improve public health outcomes across Europe.
Strategic Coordination and Expert Insights
ONCODIR extends its sincere appreciation to Michele Calabrò, Marco Di Donato, and Angela Fayos Martinez from EUREGHA (European Regional and Local Health Authorities). Their expert coordination and support were instrumental in delivering a seamless and productive session.
The event was also privileged to welcome Marianne Da Silva from the European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA). Her contributions offered critical perspectives on the objectives of the EU Mission on Cancer, highlighting how cluster-wide collaboration acts as a catalyst for achieving high-level European health targets.
Collaborative Progress Across Five Pillars
Project partners from Cancer Prevention at Work, PIECES, 4P-CAN, PREVENT EU, CO-CAPTAIN_EU, and ONCODIR presented updates across five strategic thematic areas:
- Research & Innovation: Advancing the technical frontiers of early detection.
- Data Management: Ensuring robust, secure, and interoperable health data.
- Inequalities: Addressing the socio-economic gaps in cancer care access.
- Citizen Engagement: Bridging the gap between scientific research and the public.
- Communication & Dissemination: Amplifying the reach and impact of project findings.
From Research to Policy
A central theme of the meeting was the exchange of policy recommendations. By drawing on diverse project experiences, participants identified shared challenges and lessons learned. These discussions focused on enhancing the uptake and long-term sustainability of project results, ensuring that innovation translates into permanent improvements within European healthcare systems.
“These discussions once again underscored the importance of translating research into concrete action, strengthening efforts in cancer prevention and early detection across Europe.”
Looking Ahead
The meeting concluded with the initiation of planning for the fourth cluster gathering. This forward-looking approach reinforces the consortium’s commitment to ongoing synergy and collective impact. Through continued cooperation, the Cluster remains dedicated to turning implementation research into a powerful tool for a cancer-free future.
